Jennifer Aniston and Justin Theroux are separating after two and a half years of marriage. The pair, who spent seven years as a couple, announce their split in a statement to Associated Press released by longtime Aniston publicist Stephen Huvane.
“In an effort to reduce any further speculation, we have decided to announce our separation. This decision was mutual and lovingly made at the end of last year,” the statement reads. “We are two best friends who have decided to part ways as a couple, but look forward to continuing our cherished friendship.”
Through the statement, Aniston and Theroux also say not to believe any “fictional narrative” regarding their relationship which has been spreading on internet. “Normally we would do this privately, but given that the gossip industry cannot resist an opportunity to speculate and invent, we wanted to convey the truth directly,” they say. “Whatever else is printed about us that is not directly from us, is someone else’s fictional narrative. Above all, we are determined to maintain the deep respect and love that we have for one another.”
The announcement of their separation came just days after Aniston’s 49th birthday. The “Friends” alum gathered her gal pals to celebrate her milestone at Courteney Cox’s Malibu house. Also present at the low-key bash were Mandy Ingber and Jennifer’s manager Aleen Keshishian among others.
