In March, Kendrick Lamar dropped “The Heart Part 4,” a lyrical onslaught in which he seemed to target an unnamed rapper, spitting the following bars:
“My fans can’t wait for me to son yourpunk ass and crush your whole lil shit/I’ll Big Pun your punk ass you a scared lil bitch/Tip-toeing around my name n***a you lame/And when I get at you homie don’t you just*tell me you was just playin/’I
Fans immediately speculated that Kendrick was targeting Big Sean, after the Detroit emcee reportedly fired off some subs of his own on DJ Khaled’s “Holy Key.”
Afterward, the narrative became accepted, and while Sean and Kendrick never said each other’s name, people were quick to wonder if either one would ever come through with a full-on diss track. As of today, that moment has yet to come, but it seems as if Big Sean isn’t quite ready to let Kendrick have the last word.
Today, Metro Boomin and Big Sean delivered their collaboration album Double Or Nothin, and both fans and Complex were quick to note a few lines on the album’s second track “Big Bidness.” In the track’s closing bars, Big Sean spits the following:
“Nobody sonning me/If am a sun, I’m the one you look up to/ Fuck you”
After all, Kendrick did threaten to “son” a rapper who may-or-may-not be Big Sean. Either way, both parties seem content to fire off a few, subliminals a year, so perhaps we’ll hear Kendrick, issue a veiled response at some point in 2018.
