Nicki Minaj’s brother, Jelani Maraj, may be walking free soon or will never see the streets again, and all of this depends on what jurors take from the summations done on Monday.
According to Newsday, the jurors pondered the simple question about the case which had been deliberated for a nearly a month: did Jelani repeatedly rape his stepdaughter in 2015, or was this all cooked up by his ex-wife to extort his famous sister, Nicki Minaj?
Newsday noted that attorneys on both sides tried their best to convince the jurors who would be presenting their decision soon.
Jelani Maraj was arrested and charged with predatory sexual assault against a child, which carries a punishment of life in prison, and also, he faces second-degree course of sexual conduct and a misdemeanor count of acting in a manner likely to injure a child.
Speaking to the juror yesterday, the Nassau Assistant District Attorney, Emma Slane, told the jurors made up of four women and eight men that they should believe the alleged victim, who is now 14 years old and who has gone through a great deal of pain retelling her story of how the man she “trusted and loved” sexually assaulted her from April to November 2015 in their own home. She added that the alleged victim’s brother, who was 8 at the time of the alleged rape, also told how he saw Maraj and the girl, both with their pants down, and Maraj’s “private parts” touched his sister.
“You have the power to speak — tell those children you heard them,” the assistant attorney told jurors.
Newsday did not state what the defence attorney said. However, the verdict will be delivered soon and the fate of Jelani Maraj, which will greatly affect Nicki Minaj’s career (as she has been accused of paying for his lawyers), will be known in a few days.
