Police decline to release body of drowned ACP Osung Ekpo to his family till autopsy report is completed
The Lagos State Police Command on Tuesday stated that they are not in a hurry to release the corpse of the Assistant Commissioner of Police in Area K Command, Morogbo, Badagry, Mr Osung Ekpo, to the family for burial as the command is still awaiting the autopsy result.
Lagos Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dolapo Badmos told newsmen that the deceased was a senior police officer and would be accorded a befitting burial but investigations had to be conducted.
Ekpo was reported to have drowned in La Avalon Hotel’s swimming pool in the Ajah area on Valentine’s Day but according to the police spokesperson, Badmos, no one in the hotel was suspected or arrested.
SP Badmos said, “If someone dies in active service, there are steps to follow. He was a senior police officer; he was an ACP, and nobody can hurriedly bury him. We will give him a befitting burial.
“It is not true that we arrested the hotel manager. The hotel has also not been sealed off. Except maybe the hoteliers decided to close to mourn him. We also do not have a report that he was with female guests. The situation was that the ACP was an active man. I jog every morning too. He used to swim, and he did it in the hotel for years. Maybe his health failed him on that day.”
