Nigeria-American actress, Adepero Oduye is joining the talented cast of Oren Moverman’s upcoming adaptation of Herman Koch’s novel The Dinner.
The bestselling novel has been in various stages of preproduction since 2013 with Cate Blanchett originally set to make her directorial debut with a script from Moverman. Following Blanchett’s departure, Moverman has stepped into the director’s chair and has been shepherding the film steadily toward production, which began in New York on January 21.
Oduye, who most recently appeared as Steve Carell’s boss in The Big Short,” will be joining a cast that includes Laura Linney, Richard Gere, Steve Coogan, and Rebecca Hall.
The Dinner, originally published in the Netherlands in 2009 and in the U.S. in 2013, is an unsettling examination of family tensions and the savagery that can underline a carefully maintained façade of decency and morality.
Moverman described the project as “an extraordinarily provocative, conscience-bending ride that takes on culturally relevant issues and turns them into an intricate menu of human passions and primal fears.”
