Katsina’s popular hooligans (Kauraye) killed a 23-year-old Silim Mu’azu and injured four others in Kwabren Dorawa quarters in Sabuwar Unguwa area of Katsina State metropolis.
According to eyewitness, the dreaded group who were moving in large numbers launched the attack on the eve of Eid-el-Fitr celebration, beating and molesting residents indiscriminately.
The 23-year-old deceased was killed by the group during the rampage, Daily Trust gathered.
Late Salim was on his way to his shop when the dreaded Kauraye met him and stabbed him severally to death with knives. An eyewitness told Sunday Trust that the deceased died on the spot due to excessive loss of blood.
The eyewitness said four other persons were injured by the thugs: “They were tailors. They were attacked by the group in their shops. After attacking the tailors, the Kauraye raided all the shops around. They carted away clothing materials and destroyed others”.
The police public relation officer, DSP Aminu Sadiq Abubakar confirmed the incident, saying two suspects had been arrested and some dangerous weapons were recovered from them.
Meanwhile, the police have confirmed the arrest of 17 persons, comprising of 13 suspected armed robbers and four hooligans that specialized in car snatching and molestation of innocent citizens in the State.
Alhaji Muhammad Hurdi, the state police commissioner, said 13 of the arrested persons were suspected armed robbers that had been terrorizing people in the southern part of the State.
The commissioner said they were arrested in Kafur, Kankara, Safana, Sabuwa and Funtua local government areas, adding that dangerous weapons comprising Dane gun, locally made pistol, live ammunitions, motorcycles, cutlasses and police belt among other items were recovered from them.
Hurdi said, “A gang of armed robbers was smashed by our men in Kafur local government and one of them was shot. The wounded suspect was later arrested by the police in Kafur town and he confessed to us that they were five. We are still pursuing others that have fled”.
