News: Delta Youths Set On Fire Kidnappers’ Base

Youths in Enwhe in Isoko South Local Government Area of Delta State, piqued by the rate of abduction in their community, razed a residential building suspected to be an operational base of kidnappers at the weekend.

According to Daily Sun, gunmen had laid siege to the community, kidnapping people and demanding ransom for their release.

A community source said that the community was usually thrown into confusion each time the hoodlums struck, whisking away loved ones to their hideout and demanding princely ransom that victims’ relatives found difficult to pay.

The activities of the gun-wielding kidnappers became unbearable when they took a popular daughter of the land hostage last week.

It was gathered that the victim, who was simply identified as Madam Akaname is a staff of an oil prospecting company in the area. She was allegedly kidnapped in her hometown, Olomoro.

Following her abduction, the police were said to have intensified efforts to arrest the hoodlums and as the policemen closed-in on the fleeing gang, the victim was released. Thereafter, she was said to have led security operatives to the residential building located behind the community secondary school.

Madam Akaname had told police that she was kept in the building for days by the gunmen who demanded undisclosed ransom from her relatives and friends in enable her breathe the air of freedom again.

Though, as soon as the security operatives left the scene after the recovery of two cut-to-size locally made guns, youths in the community mobilised to the building and set it ablaze.

Although efforts to reach the Public Relations Officer of the state police command, ASP Lucky Uyabeme failed, Daily Sun gathered that two suspects were already in police net helping the police to track down the fleeing suspects.

The police in the state had declared war on kidnappers and demolished buildings suspected to harbour hoodlums following approval by the state government.

No fewer than 10 buildings used as operational base by hoodlums had been brought down in major towns across the state.
