CAF select Nigeria for African Awards

The Gala event for the prestigious Glo – CAF Awards will be held in Lagos, Nigeria on the 9th of January 2014 the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has finally confirmed.

The event has now toured five cities since the 2005edition was held in Abuja (Nigeria).

Lagos, Lome, Accra and Cairo have all taken turns to host the flagship football award event at different times.

Going into the 2014 edition, Ivorian midfielder Yaya Toure is the current African Player of the Year having won the last two editions while the 2013 African Player of the Year – Based in Africa winner is Mohamed Abou Trieka of Egypt.

After first dominating the Awards in its earlier stages, Nigeria has since taken back seat as Kanu Nwankwo is the last Nigerian player to win the continent’s top award in 1999.
