The story of their seperation is no longer news, but one thing for sure is that, music lovers in Nigeria have definitely missed D’banj’s popular intro “It’s Don Jazzy again”. Who do you think had a better year?
Don Jazzy’s new record label, Mavin recorded an average impact in the music industry, released singles of most of the artistes on the label are not only undergoing media review, the songs are getting heavy rotation on the airwaves and Mavin also dropped the Frenzy album by D’Prince, which is doing pretty well.
Don Baba J won one or two awards this year, had brand endorsement and also talked about opening a Nite Club.
Now taking a look at D’Banj’s 2012, you would agree with me that the Koko Master definitely enjoyed this year. For him, it’s obvious D’Banj is getting the needed international exposure with his hit track, ‘Oliver Twist’ which sold over 15 million copies worldwide (Sonny Music report), and also spent weeks on most world’s popular music charts.
He won a couple of International awards, got brand endorsements, performed at big concerts, launched a nightclub named ‘One Eleven’. And just recently, he got four nominations at the World Music Awards. Also, ‘Banger’ as he’s now fondly called by his friends, had couple of successful music collaborations that confirmed his dominance in Africa/ Nigeria music scene. While D’banj’s new singles are enjoying massive airplay, he’s music delivery has definitely improved, taking his new single, “top of the world” in reference.
An amazing year for both D’banj and Don Jazzy, with both establishing their own record labels and also opening night clubs. Definitely looks like a competition to me, so who do you think is winning? D’banj or Don Jazzy? Comment below
