Governor Rochas Okorocha who recently marked his 54th birthday, has donated NIM and a car each to the three Paralympic gold medallists from Imo state, National Helm reports.
The gold medallists are Roland Ezurike, Nwosu Ndidi and Orji Josephine Precious. It was gathered that the governor also extended his kind gesture to the coaches.
The special athletes on their part, sang Happy Birthday song for the governor and promised to set the pace.
The Governor while addressing them, said
“The best thing that can happen in Nigeria will come from Imo state as you have made not only the state but the nation proud.”
Roland Ezuruike set three Paralympic Records to win gold in the Powerlifting Men’s -54 kg. While Ndidi Nwosu landed Nigeria’s fifth gold medal of the Rio 2016 Paralympics, lifting 140kg to equal the Paralympics Record (PR) in the women’s -73kg Powerlifting event.
Josephine Orji won Nigeria’s eight and final gold in her +86kg Powerlifting event. She did so by breaking the World Record and setting a new one of 154kg.
The donation from Governor Okorocha comes after the House of Representatives donated N18m to team Nigeria Paralympians. Each member of the House resolved to pay a sum of N50,000 to Team Nigeria Paralympians, following their successful performance at the just concluded Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
