A former professional boxer was allegedly brutalised by some students after he was accused of stealing a laptop.
According to reports, a retired Zambian heavyweight boxer, Joseph Chingangu, was beaten to a pulp by angry students of the University of Zambia, who accused him of stealing a laptop.
Earlier this year, the boxer who fought popular titleholder, Vladimir Klitschko at some point in his career, was arrested by Lusaka police and charged with burglary and aggravated robbery, after he was caught on camera while stealing from someone’s house and also being in possession of a stolen vehicle.
The 48-year-old was later admitted to a hospital where he’s currently receiving treatment for his injuries.
“It is alleged that the victim wanted to steal a laptop from a student as he was standing by the window of the hostel and attempted to get it through the window and that’s how the mob of students descended on him. He is currently admitted to Levy Mwanawasa Hospital.” a police spokesman said concerning the incident.
