According to THIS DAY, there are strong indications that Goodluck Ebele Jonathan have gone into exile in Côte d’Ivoire to avoid arrest. This follows reports that the EFCC may arrest him as he comes back from his overseas tour on allegations of corruption and misappropriation of funds…THIS DAY reports.
According to their report, sources close to GEJ said he has sought refuge in Côte d’Ivoire last week. Since GEJ handing over, EFCC has arrested and persecuted his close associates on allegations ranging from money laundering, diversion of public funds and contract scams especially linked to the defence sector and purchase of arms for the war against Boko Haram in the North eastern part.
According to a source that spoke to THIS DAY said GEJ was warned by security sources of a plan to arrest him immediately he steps into the country. GEJ who departed Nigeria for the US two months ago to be with his children was informed of this latest development and contacted a few West African leaders including the President of Cote d’Iviore, Alassane Outtara, who offered him a safe haven, the source said
Sources close to the President said once the information of the resolve to arrest GEJ got to Niger Delta, Ijaw militants have gone berserk and stepped up their attacks on oil and gas installments in their region.
