History Channel has released the trailer to the remake of American slave story Roots.
The 8-hour drama will tell the story of American slavery, focusing on the journey of one family and their will to survive and to carry on their legacy despite hardship.
The mini-series stars Forest Whitaker, Anna Paquin, Laurence Fishburne, Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Anika Noni Rose, Tip “T.I.” Harris, Emayatzy Corinealdi, Matthew Goode, Mekhi Phifer, James Purefoy, Regé-Jean Page and Malachi Kirby.
It is set to premiere on Memorial Day, Monday, May 30, according to a statement by History Channel.
The original mini-series, based on Alex Haley’s 1976 bestseller, “Roots: The Saga of an American Family”, the original miniseries premiered in 1977.
