Taraba Guber Polls: Aisha Alhassan Denies Boastful ‘Video Clip’ On Outcome Of Supreme Court Judgment

Aisha Alhassan-Taraba-APCThe governorship candidate of All Progressives Congress (APC) in Taraba State and Minister of Women Affairs, Senator Aisha Alhassan, has distanced herself from a purported ‘video clip’ circulated by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state.

In the video clip, it was alleged that Aisha Alhassan, who is popularly called ‘Mama Taraba’, boasted that she would influence the outcome of the Appeal Court’s judgment at the Supreme Court.

The APC candidate, who petitioned the governorship election tribunal on the Taraba polls, was declared winner of the April 11, 2015 governorship election in the state after the tribunal annulled the election of the PDP candidate, Darius Ishaku as the governor.

The Tribunal had ruled that Ishaku was not validly nominated by his party, therefore, was not qualified to have ran for office as Taraba governor.

However, in an appeal filed by the PDP candidate, the Court of Appeal last month nullified the victory awarded the APC candidate by the tribunal and upheld the declaration of Ishaku by INEC as governor.

Dismissing the purported ‘video clip’ as the handiwork of her political detractors, Senator Aisha Alhassan denied any attempt, either by herself or aides to influence the apex court’s judgment in her favour.

A statement by the Aisha Media Office signed by John Ali-Mararaba in Kaduna yesterday, said the PDP was jittery over the Minister’s decision to approach the Supreme Court.

This, she said, informed the so-called video clip, adding that the PDP was confused, desperate and trying to whip up judiciary’s sympathy (Supreme Court).

“Why are they worrying and trying to whip up sentiments if they say they have a good case and I have no case?” Senator Aisha Alhassan queried.

She said rather than wasting tax payers’ money on campaigns of calumny in the media, PDP should prepare to meet her at the Supreme Court.

Acknowledging that power comes from God and He gives to whosoever He chooses, the APC candidate said if she had the power or influence as alleged by the PDP, she would have got the Appeal Court judgment in her favour.

According to her: “The Court of Appeal has decided that I have no locus standi to question Ishaku’s qualification and eligibility to contest the election. Although with due respect to the Court of Appeal, I don’t agree with that because that is not the position of the law and the proper place to prove that is before the Supreme Court and not the media. This why I am going to the Supreme Court.

“So, the PDP should keep cool, stop wasting Taraba State’s funds on media campaign and let us meet at the Supreme Court.

“As I have always said, I believe in God and the judiciary which I was part of for 20 years before I joined politics.

“I have always said only God gives power and not man. Therefore, nobody, no matter how rich or influential he or she may be, can change the will of God or my destiny.

“If I had that kind of power or influence as alleged by the PDP, I would have used it to get the judgment of the Court of Appeal.

“The edited video clip the PDP in Taraba State are making an issue of is nothing but a contradiction of the message they are trying to send or my image they are trying to portray”.
