PDP Reps To EFCC, “Release Metuh Within 48 Hours Or Else…”

Olisa-MetuhMembers of the House of Representatives elected on the platform of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, on Tuesday demanded the release of the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Chief Olisa Metuh.

Metuh has been kept in custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for over a week now for reportedly receiving questionable payment of N400 million from the $2.1 billion meant for the purchase of arms to fight Boko Haram.

While Metuh admitted he carried out an assignment on behalf of former President Goodluck Jonathan for which he was duly paid, the EFCC is insisting that his explanation is unsatisfactory.

The PDP spokesman has also reportedly embarked on hunger strike for fears he might be poisoned in custody.

Addressing a press conference in Abuja on Tuesday, the PDP Reps led by their leader, Leo Ogor, said the continued detention of Metuh was a breach of the rule of law and demanded that the EFCC should either release him on administrative bail within the next 48 hours, or take him to a “competent court of law”.

The PDP lawmakers said failure to do so would force them to follow all democratic processes on the matter, including going international if the need arose.
