A Federal High Court in Abuja yesterday granted bail to the National Publicity Secretary of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Olisah Metuh.
Metuh was accused by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, of receiving N400 million from the $2.1 billion fund meant for procurement of arms for the Nigeria military but was diverted by the former National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki.
Giving the conditions for his bail, Justice Okon Abang ordered Metuh to pay N400 million as bond – the same amount he is accused of illegally receiving – and two sureties in the sum of N200 million each. The sureties are also required to have verifiable properties in the highbrow Maitama District of Abuja.
Justice Abang also ordered Metuh to deposit his international passport with the court registrar.
NGTrends reports that Metuh, who was taken to court on Tuesday in handcuffs, was denied his second prayer, which sought to bar the EFCC from re-arresting him after he had been granted bail.
Hearing into the substantive suit will commence on Monday, January 25.
