The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Benue State yesterday described some of its former chieftains who defected to the All Progressives Congress, APC, at the weekend in Otukpo, as those who betrayed the party during the 2015 general elections.
The Chairman of PDP in Benue State, Emmanuel Agbo, who described the defectors as betrayers, added that the politicians worked actively against PDP candidates in all the elections.
Prominent among those that dumped the PDP for APC at the formal flag off of the Comrade Daniel Onjeh Senatorial Campaign at the Government Secondary School, Eupi, in Otukpo, Benue State, were immediate past deputy governor, Steven Lawani; former Minister of State (Niger Delta), Mr. Sam Ode; former Minister of State (Education), Mr. Jerry Agada; former Senate President, Ameh Ebute; pioneer PDP chairman in the state, Chief Agada Igomu and a retired former Federal Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Defence, Chief Mike Onoja.
The defection of the erstwhile PDP chieftains with thousands of their supporters to the APC, is believed to have dealt a massive blow to the chances of former Senate President David Mark, who is standing for fresh elections on February 13, 2016 after the Court of Appeal nullified his election as the senator representing Benue South.
However, downplaying the effect of the defection of its former leaders to the governing party in the state, Mr. Agbo said the APC will soon discover the true character of the new entrants to its fold as inconsistent, insatiable, ungrateful and selfish politicians who represent only their personal interests and those of their immediate families.
“These desperate politicians hoodwinked the national leadership of the All Progressives congress (APC) to receive them at a ceremony last Saturday in Otukpo, headquarters of the Benue South Senatorial District.
“The Benue State chapter of the PDP wishes to state that these people are fifth columnists who worked against the interest of the party in the 2015 general elections because of their political interests and aspirations were not met.
“The party wishes to state categorically that these politicians betrayed the cause of the PDP by working actively against our candidates in all the elections. Their departure is therefore, of no serious consequence whatsoever to the PDP.
“The APC which received these people will soon discover that they are insatiable and ungrateful lot who would never appreciate any patronage extended to them by the party. The APC will soon discover the true character of these people as inconsistent, insatiable, ungrateful and selfish politicians who represent only their personal interests and those of their immediate families and not the people they claim to represent”, he said.
The Benue PDP chairman noted that he will not be surprised if the same people soon change camp for yet another political platform as soon as they scramble for whatever benefit that exists in their parasitic nature.
“The PDP is better off without these traitors and will continue with the effort to reposition towards victory in the next general elections”.
