The decision by Governor Darius Ishaku of Taraba State and his party, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to appeal the Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal ruling that sacked Mr. Ishaku from office, has been described as a waste of time and scarce resources by the All Progressives Congress, APC.
The Taraba APC chairman, Alhaji Jika Ardo, who stated this in Jalingo, the state capital on Tuesday, also called on the governor to accept defeat and join the train of change.
The tribunal had declared Senator Aisha Juma’i Alhassan of the APC as governor after it ruled that Mr. Ishaku was not validly nominated as candidate of the PDP and therefore was not qualified, ab-initio, to contest the governorship election.
Mr. Ardo assured that the APC would never take up issues with the PDP, insisting that even if the governor went as far as the Supreme Court, the judgment nullifying his election would not be upturned.
The APC chairman added: “We, APC members do not have money to lobby anyone, but we have integrity and that alone would enable us to pursue out case until we reclaim our mandate. We got our victory at the governorship tribunal and there is no doubt that we will win at the Appeal Court. Challenging the tribunal ruling is a waste of time and state resources”.
Mr. Ardo, therefore, called on Mr. Ishaku and PDP supporters to stop deceiving themselves, adding that they do not have a case to pursue.
“The APC in Taraba State is calling on those who would want to be on the side of truth to come and join the party. We have good intentions for Taraba and that is the main reason we must reclaim our mandate”, he said.
The Taraba APC chairman insisted that Governor Darius Ishaku was not duly nominated by the PDP for the April 11 governorship election.
