Ogun Pensioners Give Governor 2 weeks Ultimatum Or Else………..

Ogun State pensioners on Tuesday issued out a 21-day ultimatum to the state government for the immediate payment of their contributory pension and other owed benefits.

The retirees gave the ultimatum in a communique issued at the end of a meeting in Abeokuta, the state capital. They warned the government not to turn deaf ears to their constitutional rights.

The former workers enumerated their grievances against the government to include non-payment of gratuity to state and local government retirees from November 2012, non-return of contributory to pensioners, non-payment of 5% state statutory contribution to local government since the inception of the present administration, and the government’s failure to harmonise their pension in line with sections 173(3) and 210(3) of the 1999 Constitution.

The group of pensioners, in a nine-point resolution, asked the state government to put forward an acceptable format for immediate payment of outstanding gratuities within 12 months, effective December 2015.

Besides asking that all their outstanding debts be cleared, the pensioners also demanded the resuscitation of the state’s Bureau of State and Local Government Pension Management Committee.

Other demands include the resuscitation of the dissolved Joint Account Allocation Committee, immediate payment of 2014 Christmas bonus to local government pensioners at par with state pensioners.

The communique, signed by Al-Hadji Ashiru and A.A Bello, warned of consequences if the government failed to meet the demands within 21 days.
