The Senate and House of Representatives last week passed the N575 billion supplementary budget request transmitted to them by President Muhammadu Buhari.
Giving the commendation in a statement issued at the weekend in Abuja, Senior Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly Matters (House of Representatives), Hon. Abdulrahman Kawu Sumaila, said the passage of the supplementary budget Bill will help end the biting fuel scarcity being experienced in various parts of the country and as well address other critical issues.
“It has become imperative that the National Assembly pass the Bill so as to give the President the legislative backing to carry out important projects across the country, in line with the change mantra.
“I’m happy that the Senate and the House of Representatives acted promptly and in the national interest by expeditiously passing the supplementary budget. This is commendable and it is the spirit of true democrats”, Sumaila said.
According to the former Reps member turned Presidential aide, the passage of the supplementary budget Bill will go a long way in cushioning the economic hardships being experienced by the general populace, especially the effects of fuel scarcity as a result of non-payment of petroleum subsidy claims to the marketers.
“I must commend the Senate and members of the House of Representatives for passing the Bill and for refusing to play into the hands of those who do not wish this country well and whose only interest was to put spanners in the process and turn around to accuse the president of being slow and confused”, he added.
