While in the city for her ‘Rebel Heart’ tour, Madge visited Place de la Republique where she played a surprise acoustic show for a small crowd.

Madonna paid tribute to the victims of last month’s Paris attacks while she was in the city. Following her “Rebel Heart” concert at the Bercy Arena on Wednesday night, December 9, the singer headed to Place de la Republique and played a surprise show there.

During the impromptu gig, Madge was joined by her 10-year-old son David, her longtime guitarist Monte Pittman and a small crowd surrounding them. Braving the cold in black coat with fur hood, she performed an acoustic rendition of John Lennon’s “Imagine” in addition to her own songs like “Ghosttown” and “Like a Prayer”.

“Everybody knows why we’re here,” she told the crowd, as quoted by The Guardian. “We just want to sing a few songs about peace, just to spread love and joy, and to pay our honor and respect to the people who died almost four weeks ago. And to spread light … we all need it.”

When playing her “Rebel Heart” show earlier in the night, the iconic diva shared similar message as she talked about the horrible tragedy that claimed the lives of more than 100 people last November 13.

“We will not bend down to fear,” she said in front of the crowd. “I think of what happened almost four weeks ago now. The heart of Paris and the heart of France beats in the heart of each city. I came here when I was 20 and it was here, in Paris, that I decided to make music. Thank you Paris for planting that seed in my heart!”
