DokpesiAs the founder of Daar Communications Plc, Chief Raymond Dokpesi, appeared before a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja on Thursday, to hear the ruling on his bail application, a handful of his supporters staged a peaceful protest outside the court premises.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, had arraigned Mr. Dokpesi on a six-count-charge bordering on money laundering and contract fraud to the tune of N2.1billion.

Justice Gabriel Kolawole, who ordered that Dokpesi be remains in custody of the EFCC pending ruling in his bail application on Monday, December 14 said since he had just been briefed on the matter for the first time, the adjournment would enable him look critically at the arguments presented by both the prosecution and defence counsels.

“The court cannot deliver ruling immediately because all the processes filed by the parties are not before the court.

“I will need time to assimilate all the facts and the authorities cited by both counsel to the prosecution and the defense”, he said.

While the bail application was being heard, a motley of supporters, comprising women and some youths, were outside under the aegis of PDP National Rebirth Group in conjunction with Ethnic Youth Leaders for Peace in Nigeria, staging a peaceful protest condemning the ongoing trial of Mr. Dokpesi.
