The incident, which happened in the Kawo area of Kaduna on Wednesday, has sent a cold chill down the spine of residents of the area, who are still at a loss as to what could have triggered the killing of the four children, aged between six and one years.
The man, whose identity was not disclosed, reportedly had a bitter misunderstanding with his wife throughout the night, forcing her to leave her marital home located on Ahmadu Bello Street in Kawo.
It was reported that shortly after the wife left, the man locked the door to their house from inside and used a knife to slaughter all four children.
One of his children who was not in the house at the time of the cold-blooded murders, raised the alarm at the ward head’s area when he discovered the door to the residence locked from inside on Wednesday afternoon.
When the neighbours and some policemen, who were invited to the house later succeeded in forcing the door open, it was the gory sight of the lifeless children in their own blood that greeted them while the father was still alive but said to be in critical condition.
The Police Public Relations Officer in Kaduna State, Zubairu Abubakar, confirmed the incident, saying the man and the corpses of the children had been conveyed to St Gerard’s General Hospital in Kakuri metropolis, Kaduna.
Abubakar, an Assistant Superintendent of Police, said investigations have begun into the remote and immediate cause of the filicide.
