Ayo-FayoseThe Governor of Ekiti State, Mr. Ayodele Fayose, has promised that at the end of his tenure in 2019, he will not seek any higher political office.

Fayose, who has been one of the most vocal critics of the Muhammadu Buhari-led administration, insisted that his views on national issues are not targeted at running down any person but to help make Nigeria’s democracy grow stronger.

He made the clarification in response to the vote of confidence passed on him by the Ekiti House of Assembly, whose members crowned him “leader of opposition and governor of governors” in the country.

Governor Fayose, who will be 55-years-old this weekend, described the Assembly’s statement as “their personal opinion”, which he said they were entitled to.

Speaking with reporters at his Afao Ekiti country home, Mr. Fayose said: “I don’t see that as a big deal. You cannot run away from certain challenges; a lot of leaders have been killed or jailed for telling the truth and challenging injustice in the country. Nelson Mandela was jailed, Chief M.K.O Abiola, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, you all knew what happened to such people. I am not afraid to tell the truth; everyday, I plan my exit. Nobody can silence me. I am not going to the Senate after my exit like some former governors. I am not going to contest any political office or beg for any appointment”.
