In his immediate response to news of Audu’s death, Buhari, who is attending the Third Gas Exporting Countries Forum in Tehran, the capital of Iran, said he was devastated.

“We are obviously devastated at the loss”, a statement by President Buhari’s Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, said.

According to Shehu, President Buhari described the late Audu as a talented politician, a loving family head and respected community leader.

“He (Audu) was immensely courageous”, the statement quoted President Buhari as saying.

It further said Buhari condoled with Audu’s family, the government and people of Kogi State as well as all “our party members, men and women who stood with Audu in his bid return as Governor. He ran as the favorite in the election as the early results have clearly shown”.
