The report that the All Progressives Congress has settled for Alhaji Yahaya Bello, as the substitute candidate for late Prince Abubakar Audu in the supplementary governorship election in Kogi State, has been refuted by the party, which also said it had not taken a stand on the issue yet.
The media was awash with reports that the APC had chosen Bello, who was the runner-up in the party’s first primary election that produced Audu, to fly the party’s flag in the December 5 supplementary poll.
The APC’s purported choice of Bello, who hails from Kogi Central, put an end to the agitation for the late Audu’s eldest son, Mohammed and his running mate, Hon. James Faleke, as potential candidates.
But speaking to Vanguard on Saturday, the Acting National publicity secretary of APC, Comrade Timi Frank, said that the governing party was yet to take a decision on Audu’s replacement.
“We are still consulting on the issue. We would take a final stand on the issue of Audu’s replacement on Monday and we are definitely going to issue a statement on the issue”, he said.
