Nigerian-born singer,songwriter and pianist, Kaline Akinkugbe, says directors need budget more for music in films.
Soundtracks are very important part of a movie, as it helps to build the tone and mood of a film or series.
Nigerian series like ‘Super Story,’ ‘Everyday People,’ ‘Tales by Moonlight,’ among others would always be remembered for and with their soundtracks.
In her words: “More directors just need to have a larger budget for music, and be more susceptible to find a composer who can make the scoring a lot better. It’s getting better definitely. I’m looking forward to working with more people in Nollywood,”.
In a recent interview, she spoke on the importance of soundtracks and music score in movies;
“There are some situations where you prefer more of soundtracks as opposed to dramatic scoring. For example, ‘Waiting to Exhale,’ people remember the music, remember the songs, remember Brandy Mary J Blige and Whitney Houston,” she said.
“But there are some films that definitely need dramatic orchestration, or even electronic scoring.
“And it’s very important, because I feel that it definitely helps to move the story along, it carry the story along. We have all heard of films that we loved because of the music ; ‘Star Wars’ for example, ‘Godfather,’ ‘Doctor Zhivago,’ ‘Lord of the Rings,’we will remember the music as well as the actors.”
