Although Osun State government has offered to pay one month’s salary out of the seven owed to workers in the state, the workers say the ongoing strike in the state will remain.
The state chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) declared that strike would continue until the government accedes to their demand for the payment of five months’ salaries.
NLC chairman, Babatunde Adekomi, said that only November was paid to the pensioners. He therefore stressed that “there is no going back on strike.”
“As we continue to negotiate with the government and as the government continues to look for a way to pay our salaries, we want to call on our colleagues to remain at home until further notice.”
Adekomi added that the union has met with the chief of staff to the governor, Mr Gboyega Oyetola, who promised that one month would be paid.
