Juju maestro, Evangelist Ebenezer Obey, has every reason to feel fulfilled, not only as a musician but also as academnician as Olabisi Onabanjo University has conferred on him the honour of Professor of Music and is expected to be a visiting artiste in the department of English and performing arts.
The conferment held on Monday at the Otunba Gbenga Daniel Hall, main campus of the university.
Ebenezer Obey by the honour, is expected to lecture students on music. Dignitaries present at the ceremony include the Alake of Egba land, Oba Adedotun Gbadebo; Osile of Oke-Ona, Oba Adedapo Tejuosho, and Iyalode Alaba lawson, amongst others.
Giving a vote of thanks, the musician rendered one his hit tracks and promised not to let his appointees down.
Ebenezer Obey born April 3, 1942, Abeokuta, Nigeria. Obey’s earliest musical experiences were as a member of the local church choir while a child in Abeokuta.
His parents, both devout Christians, were also members.
In 1955, he joined the local band Ifelode Mambo, which despite its name was actually a juju outfit, playing guitar and thumb piano.
