According to Director General of he the National Orientation Agency (NOA), Mr Mike Omeri, Nigeria occupies the number 1 position in the WEMI (World Examination Malpractice Index).

Mr Omeri says the malpractice situation int the country is alarming and has led to the production of half baked graduates & collapse of the education section in the country. He said this while speaking at the launch of campaign to raise integrity in the country’s educational system.

According to Omeri, the examination malpractice in the country contails very disturbing information leaving the average annual examination malpractice index at 12%.

In the recently concluded May/June 2012 school certificate conducted by NECO, there were a total of 615,010 cases of malpractice examination malpractice, while in the previous year 439,529 cases were recorded.

Prof. Julius Okogie, Chief Executive Secretary of the National University Commission said
handwork, value and integrity have been eroded in the nation’s educational system, saying that emphasis is being placed on paper qualification rather than productivity.

Governor of Kogi State, Governor Idris Wada in his speech assured that he would eliminate examination malpractice in his state, but he added that it requires concerted efforts from all stakeholders.
